Watergrove Trust schools in the United Kingdom equip their learners with in-depth self-knowledge and skills to connect with others and contribute to their communities.
As a part of their whole child development philosophy, Watergrove Trust has trained all their teachers and pupils in the principles of Transactional Analysis (TA). This not only helps pupils in their academic trajectory, it also helps them develop to their full potential and empowers them to create renewal in their communities and beyond.
The approach has already led to learners’ increased self-esteem, better class attendance and higher academic results especially among disadvantaged pupils. One of the schools’ headmasters recently saw increased self-esteem put in practice. Four young pupils – previously very shy – took over directing traffic at a busy crossroads close to the school when the traffic lights broke down. Local builders threw them some high-visibility vests to keep them safe. The pupils kept the traffic moving until the police turned up and took over.
This story illustrates Porticus’ and Watergrove Trust schools’ conviction that whole child development in education, via TA or otherwise, can have a profound impact on children from all walks of life, but especially so on those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Porticus has supported Watergrove Trust schools since 2021.
